Online Magazine Announced
PHOTOdirection is to launch an online magazine with international appeal to the semi and professional photography industry. Covering many aspects of the photographic and related industries, the appeal will be to anyone involved in photography, at amateur, semi, or professional level.

Following on from PHOTOdirection's continuing success from 2007 (helping models get a foot up on to the professional ladder,) the decision was taken in early 2008 that the site should expand into a more general resource for all involved in professional, semi-professional or advanced levels of photography.

"Although our roots are in modelling and model promotion, we are not an amateur modelling site!" states Lesley Thomson, CEO of PHOTOdirection, continuing, "We will cover a wide range of photographic information for the whole of the industry, and have great plans to develop the site into a valuable resource we hope all visitors will want to bookmark." Thomson continued "Because of this, any photographer or model featured within the site will have to prove they are working professionally, or at least semi-professionally. In other words, if they are not earning most or all of their income from an involvement in photography, we will not consider them for the site."

Harsh words indeed, but soundly based upon the fact that there are many 'wannabe's' and time-wasters on the photographer-model circuit. They will be excluded unless there is a reasonable portfolio which consists of more than just one 'dodgy' mobile phone picture of themselves. [Usually semi-naked for no good reason, after an apparent night on the tiles, and titled 'fine-art'! Ed.]

With photography and many related industries (such as software for digital manipulation) going through an extended period of growth, there is now a huge market for PHOTOdirection to draw upon to make the content absorbing.

Thomson concludes, "The management remit is to cover industrial, commercial, wedding and portraiture photography, as well as scientific and specialist areas of the industry. As a result of this, the general appeal of PHOTOdirection will be to the serious amateur, semi and professional photographer."

The online magazine will be out in August. PD
